In 2009, MyCare and our caregiver were honored with winning the prestigious Alzheimer’s Association R.J. Roper Caregiver award.
It is estimated the 5.2 million Americans have Alzheimer’s. That includes 13% of those over 65 years of age, and nearly 50% of those over 85. These numbers are growing each year as is early onset Alzheimer’s.
Seventy percent of those with Alzheimer’s live at home, and its impact extends to millions of family members, friends and caregivers. Our owner’s mother had Alzheimer’s, so we at MyCare know all too well the devastating affect the disease has on a person and family members.
The type and quality of care that an Alzheimer’s patient receives can make all the difference in the world to that person. Caregivers have to be knowledgeable, patient and loving, and know how to communicate effectively.
MyCare specializes in non-medical home care for elders with Alzheimer’s. We work closely with and are a sponsor of the Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as member of AWARE (Alzheimer Women’s Association for Resources and Education).
Our caregivers are thoroughly trained in Alzheimer’s care and are matched with clients based on their knowledge, experience and training in the disease. As part of our extensive training process, caregivers also attend the Alzheimer’s Association’s “Caregiver Training Programs”.
